Cathedral Peak

Banff Yoho Kootenay

Summited and skied Cathedral Peak. Took the trees on the approach, looked down the south facing approach couloir from the top, it looked rocky and thin. Sun felt strong but air temps were cold and only saw very minor releases off the south facing cliffs. Snow was mostly excellent aside from the summit block which was a mix of supportable and breakable crust. Thin zipper crust developed late in the day on only the very most southerly aspects. Snowpack is still very thin in the alpine below the glacier, lots of barely hidden rocks. The glacier itself skied well and we saw no signs of crevasses.
