MCR Observation

Ken BÉLANGER, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Mountain Conditions Report

With an early start and finish, we had excellent boot to knee powder on the Victoria glacier today.

A few cm of new snow at the parking lot increased up to 30cm on the glacier.

There are some extremely large cornices guarding the col. We boot packed the 50 degree headwall centre right minimising our exposure under the cornices. It was deep snow layered with variable crusts. The slope had previously slid.

We were hoping to continue to North Victoria peak, but poor visibility, wind and storm slabs, coupled with huge cornices ruled that out.

We skier controlled a few size 1, 25cm storm slabs before sliding down the headwall, remaining on the bed surface.

Excellent dry and deep powder snow on the glacier. Sun and temperature began affecting the snow below 2300 metres, but still good creamy turns.

Ken BÉLANGER, Adventures365
Adam BURRELL
ACMG Ski, Hiking Guides
