Buzz's Ridge

robmoote, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

I skied an E aspect off Cornice Ridge, and a SE aspect off Buzz's Ridge. There's about 15 cm of settled snow on top of the crust. At the higher altitudes there must have been moist air last night, because there's a very thin ice crust on all aspects and steepnesses, not enough to interfere with riding. I did probably 25-30 hand shears during the day and saw no evidence of surface hoar on top of the crust, the snow seems to be bonding well to the crust. At altitudes below the thin ice crust there is some faceting in the top 3-5 cm. I got out the shovel at the bottom of the steep section on the SE face of Buzz's Ridge, at that particular spot there was 20 cm of snow on top of the crust, the crust was 10 cm thick, and the entire snowpack was 125 cm.
