Great day out in the McDermid drainage today, at the South end of the South Rockies. We had good skiing in up to 15 cm of dry snow on a supportive crust. There was progressively less snow as we descended, and the crust more pronounced, but it was good going from our high point of 2100 m down to our staging at 1600m.
The day was overcast, but with great visibility, we observed lots of terrain and didn’t see any natural activity, or any signs of instability.
We did note some sizable cornices on the ridge at 2100 m, and will be watching for them to grow if the wind comes up and starts transporting the loose dry surface snow.
