Mountain Conditions Report

Went up to Paul Ridge for some powder skiing for the first time this season. Snow started at about 400m, and is about 20cms of overnight snow at the parking lot which is plowed and drivable but as always BRING CHAINS and use them! From the parking skinning up and skiing out is fully possible right now and pleasant. It seems like the last 3 days storm total is around 1.2-1.4 meters and in the trees near ridge top (1600m) the snowpack is very fresh and unconsolidated (read: you will fall through to the ground if you take your skis off and tree wells are a huge hazard right now). In the open the snowpack is a bit more supportable with skiing and trailbreaking around boot top. HS was 170cm at the ridge top providing for good coverage for skiing in the highest elevations. We witnessed one sluff in the steeper terrain, but no evidence of slab avalanches. Be safe and have fun, winter is in full swing.
