Rohr Summit Conditions Report – December 1st On Sunday, December 1st, we ventured up to Rohr Summit to explore sheltered north aspects, especially after a week characterized by low snowfall and high solar input. The approach involved skinning up to the lake through a challenging boulder field, requiring careful navigation across open creeks. Upon reaching Rohr Lake, we found the center to be quite wet and slushy; I recommend sticking to the perimeter for safer passage. Above the lake, the snow cover was adequate, though numerous rocks were still exposed. At an elevation of 2200m, we probed and found snow depths ranged between 110-125cm. The snow quality from about 1700m to 2250m was notably light and fluffy, with skinning penetration of 3-4cm. However, the final 150m climb to the summit (from 2250m to 2400m) featured some crust and was affected by the wind. Overall, conditions are promising for how early it is in the season, but be mindful as there are still plenty of exposed rocks and sharks. Unfortunately, a member of our party encountered two rocks during their descent from the summit.
