Rutherford!

ghelgeson, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Another day of unlimited visibility and Low Avalanche Danger in the Sea to Sky region. We used the beautiful weather and great riding conditions to travel far and wide in the Rutherford. We saw a TON of terrain and a lot of aggressive tracks on steep features, but no new avalanche activity. Above 2000 m the snow surface is staying cold on north, east and even gently inclined west facing aspects. Steep south and west are getting moist/wet in the afternoon, but we did not see any new loose wet avalanche activity today. Neither Mike or myself had been to the Rutherford before, these kinds of trips are super valuable for us as forecasters as it allows us to get a feel for the terrain and better understand how the mountain snow cover varies across the region. This is the time to get out and ride your dream north facing lines, riding quality is good and while there is always residual risk in the mountains, this is about as good as it gets.
