<p>Lazy start, rode in Mongolia bowl on SE, NW and N aspects including the skiers left ‘peace chute’. Snow was surprisingly good and surprisingly stable. No signs of any avalanches in the last few days, but clear debris below the head wall in multiple places just under the most recent snowfall on the 25th/26th.
Chatted to some people who rode the Ron Jeremy chute yesterday and today with no drama. It looked like the most tracked spot in the two bowls!
Dug a pit at 1830m on a SE aspect after having a wind slab fail under the skin track around 3m wide. Snow was 150cm deep. Did a column test. Other than the shallow wind slab (5 ish cms) right at the surface which partially failed in the third hit, didn’t really see any results. One or two ‘did that fail?’ moments as we continued hitting after 30 hits, but surprisingly very stable. Saw a very obvious crust (~3cm thick) at 60cm down and another obvious crust around 30cm down that failed in a hand shear on a NW aspect but we couldn’t get it to react in the pit.
Overall great day out, the sun even tried to make an appearance in the afternoon!
