Cautious at Cain

AvCan Vancouver Island, Tuesday 12th December, 2023 5:00PM
We thought it was due time to poke our nose up into the north of the island. With hopes held high, we made the trek up to Mount Cain. Unfortunately, what we found matched the current state of the rest of the island. The recent warm temperatures have fused up to 10cm of the surface snow into a crust was incredibly slick and slippery. We also noted that many of the gullies were filled in. This combined with the smooth surface crust could produce avalanches in the next storm. Everywhere else, besides these specific features, there are still hazards 'a plenty of rocks, sticks, alder, and open flowing creeks.
