Back to winter in Window

southrockies, Friday 8th December, 2023 4:00PM
We made it into Window Bowl today in the Crowsnest. There was 85 cm total depth of snow, 40 cm of new snow, bonding to the previous rain saturated snow, with moist snow to the ground below. The warm temperatures and rain seem to have helped the previously weak faceted snowpack. There is snow available for transport, the top 10 to 15 cm of the new snow could develop into a wind slab if the winds pick up. There is not a lot of snow in the area, but we did not hit anything on the road and made it into window bowl without hitting anything but alders. Once in the bowl on the flats there is a lot of water on the ground so watch out for that if you travel in this area.
