Corbin Area

cordillera.tech, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Blustery day in the Corbin Valley with strong southwest wind and heavy snow squalls in between broken skies. From the valley bottom elevation intense snow transport was observed, particularly on the mountains along the BC/AB divide east of Corbin (1st photo). Observed from a distance several downed avalanches on various aspects and elevations with most appearing to have slid at or near the ground. The second photo shows the west side of Mt Ptolemy - there were fracture lines and debris visible in the far left path (small alpine start zone) and the central path from size 2 and 2.5 (maybe 3?) avalanches respectively. The larger path on the right that starts at the little peak had some minor debris in the lower track but no obvious fracture lines. There were also several fracture lines from size 1.5-2 slabs that slid to ground in the below treeline cliff bands between the central and right hand paths at 1900 m. Also saw a couple other size 2 avalanches that slid to ground on southeast aspects at around 1850 m.
