Disease Ridge

bdelahunty116, Friday 15th December, 2023 9:30AM
The snow depth was 70-100cm along disease ridge depending on wind transport. Throughout the day there was little to no wind, so we found the 5-10 cm of new storm snow was not very cohesive or slabby. Bellow the new snow, there was a very weak crust covering a 10-15cm layer of snow that was variable in its cohesiveness. In some areas it was weak, not dense and hard to move with quick hand pit tests. When we had visibility we dug some hasty pits in the upper north facing slopes to assess that the upper lines into the bowl were safe to ride. However, the weather moved in and visibility quickly dropped. Due to the exposed rock and refrozen avi debris hazards we decided to not enter the bowl in white out conditions. We descended on the ridge through soft snow and breakable crust.
