Skied some laps on the burns at Helen shoulder. Ride quality was excellent, with 5-10cm of snow on top of a supportive crust. Still plenty of fresh tracks to be had.
On south facing solar aspects we found a widespread crust 1-2cm thick down 5-10cm. Crust was supportive to skis. Underneath that crust were a number of other thin crusts interspersed with mostly faceted snow. With a thick crust near the base with depth hoar/facets below. HS ranged from 45-65cm, so some sharks lurked, but mostly good coverage. New MFsc seems to be forming on steep solar aspects. We saw no evidence of windslabs, but only skied southerly aspects.
Observed size 2 debris in steep alpine aspects off W face of Dolomite and S faces of Crystal ridge and Cirque peak.
