Crowsnest Pass still delivers

South Rockies

Today in the Crowsnest Pass we found 35 cm over the crust that formed during the last heat wave. On south-facing slopes, you can feel a new crust that has been buried by 5 cm of new snow from overnight. We tested several wind-affected areas with no signs of instability but avoided a convex roll at the top of our decent route as it was hollow sounding. We skied a steep north-facing alpine feature that was a bit variable but decent overall skiing. The recent 50 cm of new snow has settled and bonded to the previous surfaces that present as a crust on all but north-facing alpine slopes.
