The crust was not supportive below 2100m and the snow was still slightly moist below the new snow. 15cm of storm snow make for good turns on mellow slopes were you won't hit the crust underneath. Crust was bigger on solar alpine slopes but less than 1cm think on polar aspects below 2550m. small wind slabs on at the top of ridge crest and not extending more than 20m down slope.
We had whumpfing between 2250 and 2400m on solar and East aspects (suspected on the Jan 3). We dug a pit at 2300m on North aspect in a deeper location and found the Jan 3 Surface Hoar to be reactive in the easy range on an Extended Column test. ECTP 8 Down 45cm (Sudden collapse on rounding 10-12mm Surface hoar). The approach creek was in decent shape and good for a black diamond skier. Very little wind effect.
Some skiers coming from Sunshine mention that they got a lot of sloughing on the crust on a 30 degree North angle run.
Good turns off the South and East aspects of the Center Peak.
