Not so powder cowboy

southrockies, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Info gathering at powder cowboy. Looking for evidence of wet slabs and loose wet avalanches stepping down. We saw wide spread evidence of loose wet avalanches some sliding on the ground from the previous days critical warming events. We avoided sledding in or travelling through or underneath sunny slopes. We measured snow temps on different aspects 10cm down and found that the best sledding and lowest avalanche hazard areas were on the north facing slopes due to the colder snow pack temperatures. We finished our day a little earlier then normal to avoid the heat of the day when avalanche hazard was at its highest.
