Two night trip to Needle area.
Powder can be found on all aspects in the trees. We mainly skiied the flatiron side of the bowl with 20 to 30 cm of ski penetration in the lower parts. Exposed area saw wind drift and the skin tracks would fill in sections. Upper parts of the bowl were more consolidated and are forming soft slabs. We saw some point releases in steep sections close to rocks (refer to picture).
The needle ridge itself is very wind affected, as expected: thin snow, slabs, some icy sections, some cracking and drum like sounds, ridge top winds on Friday afternoon from the west.
Friday to Saturday night was quite windy, triggering tree bombs, and we got about 5 cm of fresh snow by Saturday morning 10am.
Skiing down along the Needle ridge towards the highway was a powder delight.
