Mt Bell N couloir

bryan.daneau, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Hit Mt Bell N couloir today. Good and fast conditions to the lake. Head wall required a few boot packing steps. Slope leading up to moraines N facing had 130cm or so and a bit of a crust under about 15cm of facets. Up the first section of the couloir to the boot pack transition only had maybe 30cm or so on what seemed like névé. Boot pack section was non eventful - no axe or crampons required. We bootpacked all the way to the col. Some wind skin in certain locations. No significant signs of instabilities noted throughout day. We skied a bit onto the skiers left in the steepest section which goes between 45-50deg due to better and more uniform snow. Had to manage our sluff as it had mass and speed. Best skiing was had from the moraines back to the head wall. Super fast exit down the luge track. Absolutely no wind throughout the day - not even on the col looking into Boom valley. Descent from Chickaboom on the glacier looked stellar (and untracked). ?
