Powtacular

mhalik, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

This area received around 25cm of snow overnight Tuesday accompanied by moderate to strong winds from the south and west today. This built up some touchy storm slabs in the alpine and treeline - we saw evidence of several slab avalanches out in steep alpine terrain as well as experienced some shooting cracks at ridgetop on lee (east facing) slopes. Stepping out of our skis we sunk crotch deep, pretty much the full depth of the snowpack. On skis however we only sunk about 25cm deep while skinning uphill. Total snowpack at 1950m was still only around 85cm. With all these warning signs we chose to stick to low angle treed terrain.
