<p>A relatively quiet day in the mountains today with which to observe the carnage from the recent avalanche cycle. We found great snow at treeline and above; just need the hazard to decrease to really enjoy it.
The weather was generally great, clear in the morning and overcast in the afternoon, with temperatures hovering around -1C at 2300 m and very little wind.
We observed about 30 cm of snow from the recent storm, HS = 190cm. Excellent ski quality with supportive travel. A snow pit on east aspects revealed propensity for propagation; moderate compression test results down 90 and 145 cm (SC), hard extended column test with full propagation down 90 cm. As noted by the bulletin the snow pack is very weak at the base.
We observed too many avalanches to count on all aspects at treeline and in the alpine of sizes 1 - 3.5 with very wide propagations. It was probably easier to count the slopes where avalanches did not occur. All of the activity noted occurred prior to today; we did not note any natural activity during the day today.
Stay safe.
