Nak. Thar. Snack Bar.

forecaster, Wednesday 9th March, 2022 5:25PM

Beautiful sunny day on the Coquihalla with chilly spring temps (-7C) and light northerly winds. Climbed up to Nak-Thar col around 1825 m by the south shoulder on crusty and/ or spring snow. Skied a NW bowl where we found pockets of dense powder in the most shaded and sheltered areas amongst wind-affected surfaces. Our exit down Falls Lake trail was icy and quite speedy. No new avalanches were observed today, but evidence of a wet cycle (from last weekend) was still visible. As a snack bar offers a variety of food, we found a variety of snow conditions: melt-freeze crust on south facing slopes, wind-affected snow on north facing slopes, sastrugis on open alpine slopes, pockets of dense powder in protected areas and icy slopes at lower elevations.
