Quick Observation

Found some snow that was sheltered from the winds on Feb. 25. East aspect treeline and below treeline in Powder Valley. We rode planar slopes and found the snow to be quite pleasant, for all of us the best skiing we've had this year in Yukon. The height of the snowpack near treeline was 150 cm. A quick look into the snowpack in this region revealed the following: 150 cm - 4 F 130 cm - very thin crust 85 - 1F +, midpack 0 - 4 F, weak crystals. Did not pull my loupe out but suspect facets / depth hoar No signs of instability in the snowpack in the east facing slopes that we were skiing (i.e. no whumpfing, drum like sounds, shooting cracks). North facing slopes across from us were pretty blasted from the previous days wind. We observed older debris on south facing slopes from previous warming. Did not observe any current avalanche activity.
