Flute bowl

Breanne Johnson, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Spent the afternoon in Flute bowl, primarily digging a practice profile for the Level 2 course. Profile was dug on a WNW 22 degree slope at 1875m. Average depth of snow was 80cm. Air temp -1.4 at 1pm. Foot pen 20cm. The upper 20cm consists of facets and surface hoar up to 20mm that skis nicely. Where the surface hoar was not visible directly on the surface, it has been gently laid down by sun and/or wind and is mixed in with the facets. Beneath the upper 20cm of facets is the 17cm thick Nov 26th melt freeze crust. Mid and lower snowpack was well bonded with no results on extended column test, or on deep tap test after removing bridging Nov 26th layer. The Nov 25th surface hoar was identifiable but almost completely decomposed. 15cm of size 1.5mm facets sit directly above the ground and beneath a thin Nov 3 melt freeze crust that is facetting.
