We dug a pit at ~1700m and found the Jan 17th surface hoar alive and well down 32cm, and reactive in our tests. Total snowpack height was around 90cm. Up higher at ~2200m we couldnt find evidence of the surface hoar anymore. In the alpine we saw several size 1-1.5 recent avalanches on mostly N and E facing slopes. We suspect they were small windslabs about 10-15cm deep, and some loose dry and cornice drops. There was widespread wind effect in all open areas and the windslab was reactive with shooting cracks between tracks and on steep rolls.
