Quick Observation
15 to 20 cm of recent storm snow is now overlying a rain crust and has sweetened up the skiing a lot. We got in some fun turns on northwest-facing alpine slopes and some good views between the clouds. There were no signs of new avalanches in the area and minimal wind effect. We felt a couple of whumpfs gaining ridgetop on a north-facing slope. It was shallow there, with only 30-50 cm of total snow with the whumpfing occurring due to a weak layer of facetted sugary crystals sandwiched between crusts near the base of the snowpack. We dug another quick pit at treeline and found 90cm of snow. We found the same two weak layers we have been tracking across the region down 45 and 60cm but they weren't reactive in our tests.
