Quick Observation

The day started out at -31C but temperatures rapidly increased after we gained a 100m. North facing protected trees skied good. Down drafting North winds on the south aspect kept things cold in the alpine. South and SE aspects had a hard windslabs/melt-frreeze crust with 8 cm on top made for good/bad skiing, depending how it was blown in. Not much recent Avalanche activity besides a small goat triggered .5 dry loose out of rocky terrian. Cornices were growing and north aspects along ridge line were looking stripped. Exit gully had a few CMS of soft snow over a strong melt freeze crust made for challenging conditions. HST at tree line in the trees varied from 105 to 125 cm. Head for protected north and east trees for good skiing away from old tracks.
