Quick report
Rode up Cache creek and toured up to 10,000' near Cache Peak. Melt freeze crust on W-S-E aspects up to 10k, varying levels of breakableness (a common theme). Snow began warming on SW-S aspects around 11:00 but cloud cover and light westerly breeze slowed the process. Exited the mountains around 12:00. Wet loose activity was limited to steep S aspects below small rock features. Found preserved powder on northerly aspects in the upper elevations. Small facets were developing on the surface up to 10k. Less wind affect in this area than the Tetons. No stiff slabs even off typically wind loaded features below cornices. Noted several old avalanches from early March that were related to rapid loading or cornice falls. Most avalanches appeared to fail on the 1/4 layer. Otherwise no signs of instability.
Snowpack here draws similiarities between Togwotee and the Wyoming Range. Snowpack depth was 150-210cm around 9000' on southerly aspects. Northerly aspects held a total depth of 250-300cm on wind loaded terrain.
