Mount Soakely
Vancouver Island

We fear we may need our sanity checked for heading up to Cokely today in the storm. We parked around the 7 km mark, and found the next few kilometers to be a delightful combination of deep ruts, mud, rocks, water, and glassy polished ice. After that, there is a fairly consistent sled packed road to travel on, but watch, the creeks are opening quickly. On the old ski hill we found a rapidly shrinking snowpack that is thoroughly saturated. With extreme winds trying to blow us off our feet and mixed rain and snow pouring from the sky, we opted for tuning up our rescue skills rather than teasing fate by heading to the summit. Rise and repeat indeed, let's pray for cooler temps.
