Crusty on the Duffey

We went to investigate a shallow snowpack zone on the south side of Mt. Rohr today. As expected, numerous crusts were found. There was a layer of weak facets between two crusts but the layer did not perform in snowpack tests and appears to be gaining strength.
There was 5–10 cm. of new snow and strong south winds were forming fresh wind slabs in exposed areas at treeline and above which was our primary concern today.
This recently formed crust will be important to keep in mind when the next big snowfall arrives, as the new snow may bond poorly to it.
