Helen shoulder sunshine
Banff Yoho Kootenay

After leaving the car at -26°c and snowing we were expecting a cold day. Pleasantly surprised as we broke through trees to sunshine and warner temps. Skied the south aspect of Helen's shoulder. Lots of whumfing and shooting cracks in any untouched terrain. Dug a quick pit and found 20cm of HST on top of a 3cm MFcr. All tests were failing on isolation below this crust 3mm near surface facets. HS was 90cm. Decided to stick in conservative terrain and lay some gorgeous Dad turns. A great day out, great skiing but still hitting the crust occasionally. Definitely left feeling like any avalanche terrain on S slopes will need some healing and bonding before I look at stepping out.
