Bow Summit

jake.finnan, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Variable conditions with lots of recent wind effect. Found poor conditions and wind slab closer to Peyto lake (nice photo though!), but further south on the eastern aspect at treeline and below we found some really nice snow in the thin trees and open chutes. Did a few laps and had a good day overall despite the wind. A size 1 skier triggered avalanche occurred on a convex roll moments before we arrived, which was wind slab - the crown varying in depth between 30-60cm. It did not run far, but would have been spooky. Cracking witnessed several times, and a large wumpf experienced by only myself as we were leaving the area near the lake to find better conditions. Lots of rocks out there but some turns to be had! Mid October? Doesn't seem like it.
