Shovelnose Peak

gilbert.pjb, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Found rapid accumulation of new snow starting at 400m. At 1700m there was 30-50cm of new, unconsolidated new snow sitting on the old sun/rain crust from the previous week. Below this rain crust rounds have started to develop. Multiple hand shear tests on our tour up found no cohesion in the new snow, and good bonding to the crust below. Winds were strong from the SW and were starting to form wind slabs on Lee aspects.
