Trip report for Mount Myra 2024/12/31 Went for a redemption mission on Myra after having an epic there 4 years ago. This time we were successful and had an awesome day to wrap up 2024! We walked with shoes on (or at least one of us did cause the other one opted for the ski boot approach) until around 650m where there’s enough snow coverage on the road to put skins on. From that point there were a few creek crossings to navigate but nothing too cruxy. A thick crust with 10-15 cm of low density snow made for relatively fast travel. From there we started toward the ridge and after a bit of a painful boot pack (the crust was not supportive to ski boots 😞)we gained the ridge. At roughly 1050m there was 190cm HS. The ridge had some wind effect but nothing that wasn’t manageable. From the ridge we boot packed up a short gulley (thankful to have an ice axe in hand) and had a nice mellow ramp to the summit. Cornices are getting larger up there so watch out! We descended back down the way we came up until we hit the col closest to the summit and had a sweet 800m descent down the NW gullies. At around 1050m we traversed back to our up track as below this the skiing starts to turn into “classic” subalpine island tree “skiing”. Car to car it took us 8hr45mins.
