Beadnell skied well
Vancouver Island

Quick pre-storm visit to Mt Beadnell to round out our week of exploring in Low avalanche danger. The thick December 8 crust remains the dominant feature of the upper snowpack and was felt throughout our travels, even where skiffs of soft snow sit above it. The crust is exposed on the surface in much of open treeline and alpine. With some careful line selection, we were able to link a few turns at a time in troughs and draws holding softer snow. Below about 1500 m, a much thinner crust had formed on the surface of a minimal layer of soft, moist snow sitting on the coastal concrete.
