Hector South Ridge

Marcus Baranow, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Spent another day lapping pow in the Hector South Ridge area at treeline. Our skin track from yesterday had 5-10cm of snow in it. Lots of people skiing in the area and the track is now very firm. Still lots of room for more tracks though and the snow is still very good and deep. The new snow last night only barely improved skiing in the lower forest, still sporty with lots of hazards. We saw several size 2 avalanches in the Hector South Peak bowl on south and east aspects, I assume these were natural releases during the storm last night. On our second lap we went through a short steep open slope at treeline and the 3rd skier had shooting cracks but no avalanche release.
