Avalanche Information

We observed recent natural avalanches on slopes below Big Knuckle and Little Knuckle on Saturday. Start zones were 37 to 55 degree slopes, convex rolls at TL and below rocky cliffs bands in Alpine. Likely running on crust facet interface down 25cm. On same aspect at 1600m on Sentinel Ridge, we had ECT8 on that layer.

Snowpack

ECT 8 down 25 in facets below 2cm crust. We also had CT 1 & 2 on crust facet interfaces down 6cm and 15cm. The facets are not fully formed (still rounded edges, but 1-2mm in size as crust is breaking down under this past weeks cold temps). Strong Temperature gradient in the top 90cm of snow is favouring faceting. Very stiff/hard windslabs at TL. Sentinel Ridge is well tracked out, but areas that receive less frequent activity, could make the windslab (now buried) problematic.
