Sunny and calm. 15-20°F. The storm cycle this week (2/12 - 2/16) produced BIG numbers. Probed 100-115cm of new snow. Total HS is up to 220-240+. The signs of instability are there... observed widespread cracking, collapsing and pinwheels on slopes over 20 degrees, on all aspects.
Avalanche
Observed 3 recent slides, all likely within last 24-36hrs. #1: N/NE aspect, approx. 11,200ft. Trigger is unknown, R1.5 D1.5 Rocky, cross-loaded, variable snow depths across slope. Wind slab and persistent slab problems compounded on this aspect. #2: NW aspect, approx. 10,600ft. Likely natural trigger, R1 D1. Dry loose release of new snow. This particular spot has slid 3 separate times this season, all relatively small and short run. #3: SE aspect, approx. 10,800ft. Likely natural trigger, R1 D1. Cornice Fall. Consistent westerly winds have created large cornices on easterly aspects. Cornice fall was observed on "warmer" sun baked slopes.
