Wells winter wonderland

Was quite surprised with the amount of new snow still in this zone the last couple days dropped close to 35cm. The winds were transporting this new snow and creating slabs at tree line and cornices and slabs in the alpine. This will linger as a concern with the weather due warm up and because it is sitting on top of a couple of weak layers. We did get some moderate plainer result on our compression tests but we did not see any natural slab avalanches. The riding in the trees made us feel like the snowpack was a mid February day. This will change quite rapidly with the rising in temperatures later this week.
