Quick Observation

Bow Summit - did 4 laps at Bow Summit today. Stuck to treeline slopes up to low 30 degree range. 30-45cm of settled storm snow sits on a ~10cm thick firmer layer that separates the storm snow from the facet bed beneath. Trail breaking wasn't as difficult as expected because of this layer - ski pen being about 20cm, but boot pen was VERY deep. Had to transition on 1 ski. Ski quality was generally very good if you didn't penetrate through that buried firm layer. Weather was absolutely fantastic all day - a few clouds rolled in late afternoon but it was clear calm and not even that cold most of the day. Also - we had the entire Bow Summit to ourselves! Not a skier anywhere. We got no cracks or whumpfs and I was searching for spots to get it to happen - a pleasant surprise. No new natural activity observed anywhere, but quite a few older slides from the storm all over the parkway in different stages of burial.

Snowpack

30-45cm of storm snow on a firmer 10cm layer above facets to ground.
