Mountain Conditions Report

Lovely day touring from Joffre Lake onto the Matier Glacier to the summit of Slalok and down the Stonecrop glacier.
There was very little ski pen all day from temperature or wind crust with the exception of the descent between 2700m and 2000m.
We bypassed the Matier icefall on the climbers right with a 50m boot pack but the crevasses look filled in enough to turn it on the left side. Having been here a number of times in the summer I would definitely suggest having a rope with you if choosing this option. The upper ridge on Slalok was firm so we bootpacked one short section but no crampons were necessary.
3mm SH was observed above 2200m and becoming as large as 7mm near the summit but might blow apart with the next advancing front. Two TPs at 2200m & 2670m N aspect revealed a well settled snowpack with no significant shears in the upper 70 cm. Mt Matier NW face was skied by another party.
