Chick-a-Bell

m_lab, Sunday 3rd April, 2022 7:40PM

Completed the Chickadee valley to Taylor lake via bell couloir traverse. Cold overnight and variable cloud cover all day kept south faces cool and dry, only a little bit of surface melting on climb of Bell south face that refroze once the clouds rolled over. Crust remained supportive all day, bit of fresh snow held a good edge. New snow was bonding well on all aspects. North facing snow skied like dry winter powder. Wind was roaring at col above bell couloir, sluff running fast down the steeps. We skied the couloir from top down with no results other than lots of sluff. Crampons were useful at bottom of chickadee head wall and top of bell climb
