South Rockies

Skinned up Ridge 2000 from the bottom of Fish Bowl to Lizard Lake and a few hundred meters above. There was already a skin track in on the way up and 2 tracks in Liverwurst on the way down. Snow was sometimes pow, sometimes packed pow. Noticed two old avalanche crowns in Liverwurst. Hard to tell from a distance but looked more like glide cracks as I couldn’t see a track or debris. Also a very deep crown if it was a slab. ECT test on NE aspect at 1600m. Open area with trees in the general surrounding. 37deg slope. Snow depth was 195cm. ECTX result. 4-finger snow with great cohesion - perfect for cutting blocks to build a backcountry kicker. No apparent wind slab in this area, whereas Fish Bowl did have that problem (see other MIN). Skiing down was sometimes powder sometimes packed powder. For the most part it was pretty soft and definitely better than Fish Bowl if you picked a line somewhat sheltered through trees. It’s getting harder to find the soft fluffy stuff as it seems we’ve been getting some more Northerly winds as well.
