Nak shoulder

daniel.piccininni, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Highly Variable pockets of wind slab and new snow on old wind slab from 1200 to 1600 m. Above 1600 m very wind affected. Occasional Shooting cracks up to ski length on some wind loaded micro features. In some areas there were 3 layers of windslab, that separated easily from each other and slid easily in shovel shear and hand shear tests. Top 2 windslab layers were each 5-15cm thick. Bottom layer was 15 to 40 cm thick. Great powder in sheltered areas, with a fair amount of sluffing on steeper features. Surprise buried windslabs (sometimes breakable) kept you alert. Released a small size 1 windslab on a small SE feature in the trees just above the pipeline. Skier who triggered didn’t realize it had been released.
