Quick Observation

Great snow today in the Wolverine! -17 degrees at the trucks and above zero and raining at 5,000 feet. Fortunately the rain tapered off quick and it kept nuking big flakes at end of day. A good 1.5-1.2 metres of snow on the ground. The upper snowpack is composed of 40+cms of POW. The mid pack is a tripe decker sandwich of ice/rain crusts and facets in between. Our major layer of concern is down 70cm and is providing MODERATE RANGE (CTM 14 down 70 on ice/facet (4.0) interface results on Compression tests and Hard range in Extended Column Test on same layer. Lower end probability but big consequences should it release. We have this same basic problem in the pass as well, so far we are seeing this deep slab as a persistent problem. Awesome day training some young and older guns on the AST1 field day!! Snow is sick and ITS STILL DUMPING!
