Quick Observation

We were out at Groundhog Lake today to see how the snow is piling up. With 20-30cm of new snow now sitting over last week’s crust, the riding is improving. This new snow has formed a storm slab. We saw several new avalanches that had failed on top of the crust in steep terrain. The hard bed surface allowed these slides to run a long way despite not being very deep at the crown. While we didn’t get the snowfall that was forecasted for today, there were strong westerly winds that formed fresh windslabs in the alpine.
