2 days in Caspar Creek
Jan 13 - Solar aspects were pinwheeling and a couple loose wet avalanches were seen from shallow start zones in the alpine. We eyed up a nice looking N-NE slope at tree-line. The top elevation was ~1800m. We dug a pit on top and found the top 10cm to react with resistant planar characteristics, followed by progressive compression with more taps. The January 6th crust was 50cm down. We backed off of this slope and settled for beautiful powder back down the trees on the other side.
Jan 14- Got up early and skied on the W shoulder of Caspar. Found beautiful snow on the way down, but we were feeling the pressure to ski out before the sun took full effect. At 10am we were ~2100m, and temps felt around +5c. Skied out in the shade, and it was wonderful.
