Snowpack

Hey guys and gals! We had a great weekend sledding Revelstoke area. Awesome snow for three big days of riding. We dug a pit back in Area 52 past Turbo Mountain and observed some really sturdy snow in the lower part of our 120cm pit. The upper part of our pit we had an CTM20(36CM). When we dug out beside the column we Bump Tested the first shovel lift that really highlighted the upper 3 obvious interfaces. We also did an Extended Column Test with no results. I was rather aggressive with my hits, really trying to find something. I finished the ECT with a shovel shear that flopped over as a whole. As the pictures show, there was lots of melting beneath the snow surface. We recorded temps every 10cm stopping at 100cm with a temp of -4.7C. As far as observations to and from, definite solar radiation on south - south/west aspects with lots of pin-wheeling and wet point released observed. We found lots of untouched pow in the back parts of boulder and the burn in Frisbee. Heads up out there and keep an eye on your buddy while playing around in small areas. Ride in pairs, so you always have someone to dig you out of a terrain trap asap.
