Quick Observation

The week long storm was in full effect with another 15 cm of new snow and strong south wind when we arrived at Fraser. 80 cm of recent snow makes for challenging trail breaking, especially since warm temperatures and wind have made the surface highly variable with pockets of deep powder, hard wind slabs, and stiff snow above soft snow. With concern about storm slabs, we stuck to small supported terrain features and found the new snow was not showing signs of being reactive on these slopes. Bigger slopes in the alpine looked heavily wind-loaded.
