Quick Observation
At McDermid today it started out warm and got hotter as the day progressed. There was a thin crust on the slopes that got the sun yesterday, but it broke down quickly with today's heat. Around noon we started seeing small (size 1) wet loose avalanches coming down from steep east-facing slopes. They continued in the afternoon and got bigger and bigger (size 2). It was calm in the morning and then a light south breeze started in the afternoon and not a cloud in the sky. We measured +4 at 2000 m just after noon. We rode low-angle trees and left the field early to avoid the worst of the avalanche hazard.
