Great skiing in Mongolia!! Solar slopes have a supportive crust under the 40-50cm of new snow. Polar slopes have no crust under the new and feel bottomless!! Trail breaking was thigh deep and we put in a skin track avoiding all overhead we could and lapped that for the day.
Widespread natural cycle of dry loose and storm slab occurred today. Continual sluffing from the headwalls cleaned out the entire wind affected fans with numerous pockets of size 1.5-2 storm slabs. Steep TL features also numerous natural dry loose and storm slab up to size 1.5.
While skiing we triggered numerous touchy pockets 40-50cm deep on small convex rolls and steep slopes up to size 1. We observed sympathetic and remote triggers while skiing polar slopes between 1700-1900m. We used all our best travel practices today, chose low angle sheltered skiing, and were mindful of our overhead approaching and exiting the zone. The skiing was epic!!
